  this weeks assigned bible reading is judges 1-4. i have never noticed judges 1:19 before which reads in the nwt as:.

  jehovah was with judah, and they took possession of the mountainous region, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain,* because they had war chariots with iron scythes.

  In taking possession of the Promised Land, the Israelites won early victories over its inhabitants. However, the sons of Israel failed to obey God’s commands fully. They did not drive out the enemy. (Judg. 1:1–2:10) - WT 2/15 2008

  Because God’s orders were not fully carried out, many inhabitants of Canaan survived Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land. (Judges 1:19-21) - WT 7/15 1997

  Showing how Israel had “not listened” to God, the Scriptures relate that the tribe of Judah neglected to dispossess the inhabitants of a certain area of southern Canaan “because [the inhabitants] had war chariots with iron scythes.” (Judg. 1:19) Apparently these scythed chariots frightened the tribe of Judah. Thereafter the tribes of Benjamin, Manasseh, Ephraim, Zebulun, Asher, Naphtali and Dan likewise failed to drive out the Canaanite inhabitants of numerous cities and dependent towns. Instead, they consented to dwell in among the Canaanites, setting some of them to “forced labor.”—Judg. 1:21-36. - WT 8/15 1977

  a few weeks ago, i asked you to critique my website article on dinosaurs (http://www.jwbeliefs.com/what-do-jehovahs-witnesses-believe-about-dinosaurs/).

  it was pointed out that much of what i wrote depends on the creative "days" being relatively short - something i believe jws teach.. after being prompted to review my conclusions/research, i was more convinced than ever that jws promote relatively short creative days.

  the nail in the coffin was the teaching that day seven is indicative of the length of the other six days (i.e.

  OK, let me try this again:

  FACT: JWs teach that "day" seven can be used to infer the approximate length of the other six creative "days".

  FACT: JWs teach that "day" seven is 7000 years long (or something every close to that). They refer to this length of time, correctly, as being "thousands" of years.

  FACT: JWs teach that each of the six creative "days" was "thousands" of years long. Based on the understanding of "thousands", noted above, these "days" were probably somehting like 7000 years each, or perhaps a bit longer.

  FACT: JWs never describe the six creative "days" (or even the entire creative period) as being billions of years, millions of years, hundreds of thousands of years, or tens of thousands of years long. They do, however, use these expressions to describe the age of the universe and "formless" Earth.

  FACT: "Billions of years" and "millions of years" are frequently used to describe the "false" teachings of science: evolution, geologic time scale, geologic column, etc...

  CONCLUSION: JWs actually teach that each creative "day" was something like 7000 years long.

  So, in summery, based on what I’ve seen:

  FACT: JWs have always taught that "day" seven can be used to infer the length of the other days. This has been explicitly stated as recent as 1998 (see Creator Book, quoted above). Nothing has been published that contradicts or revises this teaching.

  FACT: If the "end" comes as soon as JWs say it will, "day" seven will end up being about 7000 years long.

  FACT: All six creative days are described as encompasing "thousands" of years each. The only reason for this slightly vague choice of words is that JWs cannot pinpoint the date of the beginning of “day” seven (something they once tried to do: 1975 fiasco) and therefore cannot know exactly how long it will end up being.

  FACT: Neither the expression "billions of years" nor "millions of years" has ever been applied to the creative days. Both expressions, however, are routinely applied to the age of the universe and "formless" Earth.

  FACT: "Billions of years" and "millions of years" are frequently used to describe the "false" teachings of science: evolution, geologic time scale, geologic column, etc...

  CONCLUSION: JWs actually teach that each creative "day" was something like 7000 years long.

  Based on JW literature, both past and preasent, I don't think it is possible to come to any other conclusion. And, I'm not even sure JWs are trying to hide it.

  Thanks for your replies! I can see that the heading of my post is probably misleading...

  What I'd realy like to know is if all seven creative "days" were the same length. As far as I can tell, that is what JWs teach. If so, they would all be about 7000 years...

  A few weeks ago, I asked you to critique my website article on Dinosaurs (http://www.jwbeliefs.com/what-do-jehovahs-witnesses-believe-about-dinosaurs/). It was pointed out that much of what I wrote depends on the creative "days" being relatively short - something I believe JWs teach.

  After being prompted to review my conclusions/research, I was more convinced than ever that JWs promote relatively short creative “days”. The nail in the coffin was the teaching that “day” seven is indicative of the length of the other six “days” (i.e.: about 7000 years).

  “ The fact is, the Bible reveals that the creative “days,” or ages, encompass thousands of years.
  
  A person can see this from what the Bible says about the seventh “day.” The record of each of the first six “days” ends saying,‘and there came to be evening and morning, a first day,’ and so on. Yet, you will not find that comment after the record of the seventh “day.” And in the first century C.E., some 4,000 years downstream in history, the Bible referred to the seventh rest “day” as still continuing. So the seventh “day” was a period spanning thousands of years, and we can logically conclude the same about the first six “days.” ”

  But then I thought: What if JWs no longer subscribe to that idea? I can’t find anything in print that would indicate as much…

  So, do JWs teach that the creative “days” were all different lengths, or all the same length? Have they published anything that would conclusively reverse their previous teaching?

  Origin of Black Skin - JW.org Noah Movie

  i've never seen this discussed here, so thought i'd bring it up:.

  as far as i can figure, jehovah's witnesses no longer teach that black skin is the result of a curse from god.

  instead, they seem to teach that canaan was already dark skinned when his father, ham, brought the curse of servitude upon their family.

  I've never seen this discussed here, so thought I'd bring it up:

  As far as I can figure, Jehovah's Witnesses no longer teach that black skin is the result of a curse from God. Instead, they seem to teach that Canaan was already dark skinned when his father, Ham, brought the curse of servitude upon their family. Ham, evidently is believed to have had black skin.

  In the movie "Noah - He Walked With God", Noah, his wife, and two sons are depicted as white skinned. The third son, Ham, is pictured as a black man. It would seem that Jehovah's Witnesses believe two white people produced the first black person and thus the entire "black race", which just happened to be cursed by God.

  Am I reading too much into the movie? I think not, because JWs always boast about how much effort they put into thier productions. Casting a black man as Ham, seems awfuly deliberate... and has disturbig racial implications, I think.

  i went to a computer, found a list of failed prophecies, printed and stapled it, and walked over to the middle aged woman and the 10-ish years old girl.

  the woman said "if you are interested in anything, take it for free.

  It would seem that they removed the woman holding a baby and added extra lightning, more people drowning, and a dinosaur or two (at least, that sure looks like a dinosaur...)!
